Title | Axinite |
Description | Axinite is a silicate. It has the chemical formula Ca2(Mn,Fe,Mg)Al2(BO3OH)(SiO3)4. Axinite has a center of symmetry. A center of symmetry is a symmetry operation that takes a face on one side of a crystal and inverts in through the center of the crystal to the other side. Axinite is actually a series name for a group of isostructural minerals. The name comes from the Greek acine - “axe” in allusion to the acute shape of typical crystals. This sample is approximately 5 cm. |
