TitleWeathered granite, near Parlin in the Tomichi Valley, southern Colorado
DescriptionThese outcrops of Precambrian granite have weathered to form typical rounded knobs. Cracks and gullies in the granite are associated with joints which allowed water to enter the rock, thus enhancing mineral decomposition. Granite typically undergoes spheroidal weathering (forms rounded outcrops) because outcrop corners and edges weatger and erode relatively quickly.
