TitleWeathered granite, Tomichi Valley near Parlin, Colorado
DescriptionThese outcrops of Precambrian granite have weathered to form typical rounded knobs. Cracks and gullies in the granite are associated with joints which allowed water to enter the rock, enhancing mineral decomposition. Granite typically weathers and erodes to form rounded outcrops (spheroidal weathering) because outcrop corners and edges weather and erode relatively quickly.
