DescriptionHornblende is a member of the amphibole family. It has the chemical formula of Na,Ca2(Mg,Fe,Al)5(OH)2(Si,Al)8O22. Hornblende comes from an old German miners word, “horn”, which may be related to the color of horn, and the German word “blenden”, which means “to deceive”. It is most often confused with pyroxenes. This sample is about 4 cm.
