Description | Magnetite, Fe3O4, (iron oxide), is a natural magnet, hence the name, giving it a very nice distinguishing characteristic. Here it is seen with franklinite (zinc iron manganese oxide). This sample is only 11 cm in length, yet due to the magnetite, it is extremely heavy. |
