TitleIlmenite
DescriptionIlmenite, FeTiO3 (iron titanium oxide), is slightly magnetic, which means that magnets can be used to separate it from other minerals in mineral sands. It is able to withstand extreme temperatures, and is used in the steel industry to line blast furnaces. Ilmenite's hardness also makes it useful as an abrasive. Ilmenite is the main source of titanium dioxide, which is used in paints, fabrics, plastics, paper, sunscreen, food and cosmetics.
