Title | Sphalerite and magnetite |
Description | Magnetite is a lustrous black, magnetic mineral, Fe3O4 (iron oxide). It occurs in crystals of the cubic system, in masses, and as a loose sand. It is one of the important ores of iron (magnetic iron ore) and is a common constituent of igneous and metamorphic rocks. sphalerite, (Zn,Fe)S, is an important ore of zinc and can make a rather attractive cabinet specimen as well. It can have excellent luster and associates with many beautifully colored minerals making it one of the best enhancers of many fine mineral specimens. |
