| Description | Hematite, Fe2O3 (iron oxide), Hematite is an important ore of iron and it's blood red color (in the powdered form) makes it a useful coloring agent. Crystals of hematite are rare.  Masses or aggregates of fine grained crystals are more common.  Some hematite samples have a botryoidal or kidney-shaped habit.  This specimen, 22 cm across, give just a hint of such a habit. |
