Title | Hematite |
Description | Hematite, Fe2O3 (iron oxide), is one of the most common minerals. The color of most red rocks, such as classic red sandstone, is caused by small amounts of hematite. Hematite is an important ore of iron and it's red color makes it useful as a pigment. Visible crystals of hematite are rare; most samples are very fine grained or massive. This specimen is about 10 cm across. |
