Title | Pyrargyrite with limonite and malachite |
Description | This specimen is mostly limonite (orange, earthy color, iron oxide/hydroxide). It also contains pyrargyrite, Ag3SbS3 (deep red color on the right side of the specimen) and malachite (green, copper carbonate hydrate). Pyrargyrite's color is a dark red and is most commonly so dark that it appears black. The nickname “ruby silver” has been applied to pyrargyrite although it is typically applied to the related mineral proustite. The specimen is 9 cm across. |
