Title | Realgar and orpiment from Felsobanya, Hungary |
Description | Realgar, AsS (arsenic sulfide), is one of only a few sulfides that are non-metallic, opaque or blandly colored. Realgar occurs in hydrothermal veins with valuable metal sulfide ores and its bright red color is distinctive. Orpiment, As2S3 (arsenic sulfide), is a rare mineral that usually forms with realgar. In fact the two minerals are almost always together. The yellow color is special to orpiment and can be confused only with a few other minerals. |
