TitleStibnite with arsenolite and quartz from Gondemar, Portugal
DescriptionThis specimen is almost all stibnite but if you look closely you will see small crystals of brown-yellow arsenolite and clear quartz in some places. Stibnite, Sb2S3 (antimony sulfide), is readily identified when having the appearance shown: fine crystal clusters and long curved crystals. The curving of the long bladed crystals is due to twinning where one twin plane bends the crystal one direction and another twin plane bends it in the other direction. This can occur numerous times down the length of one crystal. The specimen shown is 7 cm across.
LocationPortugal. Near Gondemar.
