DescriptionThe colorful Morrison Formation (Upper Jurassic) is composed of gray, green and maroon sandstones and mudstones laid down in lakes on swampy plains. This view, from Highway 24 east of Capitol Reef National Park, also shows some Entrada Sandstone (Jurassic) in the foreground. The Morrison Formation is known for the dinosaur bones it contains, and it has been a source of uranium in the past.
