Description | Grossular, Ca3Al2Si3O12 (calcium aluminum silicate), like other garnets, often forms crystals with 12 diamond shaped faces, several of which can can be seen here. Grossular is the calcium aluminum garnet and forms in contact or regional metamorphic enviroments as does andradite the calcium iron garnet. Grossular comes in many different colors, and the green variety, called tsavorite, is one of the more common ones. This crystal is 2.5 cm across. |
